Fixing my shooting form

Whether you're just starting out or looking to elevate your game, fixing your shooting form is one of the most important aspects of becoming a reliable scorer in basketball. A consistent and efficient shooting motion is key to making more shots, increasing your range, and gaining confidence on the court.

In this blog, I’ll guide you through a step-by-step process to correct common shooting mistakes and develop the proper form that all great shooters rely on. Let’s break it down:

Your shooting form starts from the ground up. A balanced stance is crucial for stability and control. Position your feet shoulder-width apart, with your shooting foot slightly ahead. This helps align your body toward the basket. Keep your knees slightly bent to generate power and ensure you're on the balls of your feet, ready to spring into your shot.

Drill: Try shooting with your feet in different positions and note how balance affects accuracy. Focus on consistency—ensure every shot begins with a solid, stable foundation.

Proper hand placement is key to controlling the basketball and getting the right spin on the ball. Your shooting hand should be under the ball, with your fingers spread wide for maximum control. The guide hand (non-shooting hand) should rest lightly on the side of the ball, helping to steady it without applying force during the shot.

Tip: Make sure your shooting hand forms a "T" with your guide hand when holding the ball. This ensures you're guiding the ball straight to the hoop and not pushing it sideways.
